The end goal is to have sales team members, marketing and communication experts become knowledgeable in power electronics technology. This can only help to accelerate the work and exchange within and between teams of a different background.
Students will go through short and clear videos explaining power electronics topics. Each chapter will be validated through a series of tests, quiz, drag and drop or identification exercises. Additional external content is provided, too, including relevant links, blog articles, videos, and books, providing deeper source material in on each topic.
The course starts with explanations of Alternating Current and Direct Current principles. It introduces the concept of electric power, its use, and explains the necessity for it. It then defines the role and operation of the different parts of an electric conversion system: resistors, capacitors, transformers and inductors.
A chapter is dedicated to the semiconductor world. It explains in video, how a transistor is made. Each power electronics transistor technology is explained, showing a cut of the components and the current flow. Bipolar, MOSFET or IGBT operations are clearly but simply explained.
The course also covers semiconductor packaging, as well as how components are mounted in a power stack or an inverter. The main conversion topologies are also explained: Buck, Boost, Half-bridge, Full-bridge and even NPC three-level converter topologies. Examples of real converters with pictures and schematics are added.
Last chapters explain the operation, requirements, and specificities of the main power electronics applications: rail traction, wind turbines, photovoltaic inverters, motor drives, home appliances and small chargers.
