3 W isolated dc-dc converters target railway applications

May 18, 2018 By Aimee Kalnoskas

MINMAX  has announced the launch of MIZI03 Series, a new range of high performance 3W isolated DC-DC converters, specifically designed for critical railway applications.

The new MIZI03 power converter series, encapsulated within DIP-24 package, is now available for DC battery bus voltages of 24VDC, 36VDC, 48VDC, 72VDC, 96VDC, and 110VDC, with output voltages of 5VDC, 12VDC, 15VDC, 12VDC, and ±15VDC.

The high-performance 3W isolated DC-DC power converters comply with Railway DC input-voltage range and brief variation requirements in accordance with EN50155 certification, vibration and thermal shock test EN 61371, cooling, dry, and damp heat test IEC/EN 60068-2-1, 2, 30, Railway Certification EN50155 (IEC 60571), and Railway EMC standard EN 50121-3-2. The DC-DC power converter series are designed-in conducted EMI filters EN55032/11 Class A & FCC Level A, conforming to voltage isolation requirements EN 61373.

The industry-leading power converter MIZI03 series ensures high-grade security of the system by incorporating top-class safety features like voltage output trim and remote power control, along with overload, overvoltage, short-circuiting, and fire protection approved to the EN45545-2 standards.

The entire MIZI03 series 3W isolated DC-DC power converter range has been evaluated based on safety index parameters to ensure superb reliability and safe railway operation. The railway-certified DC/DC power modules are vacuum-sealed, using UL94V-0 grade sealants. The vacuum-seal of the DC-DC power converters and the 3,000 VAC voltage isolation with reinforced insulation create a robust electrical barrier to secure sensitive circuit load from excess energy mishaps. This ensures the safety of the equipment in rugged, long-term railway operations. The state-of-the-art protection features integrated by the leading DC-DC power converter series include under-voltage, short-circuiting, overload, over-voltage, and output voltage trim.

The 20ms quick start-up feature in the railway-certified MIZI03 DC-DC power converter series eliminates system timing failure caused due to long start-up times.

The speedy start-up time without overshoot, and protection against converter malfunction, enable ultimate safety of the system. In addition, the advanced, environment-friendly technology introduced in the MIZI03 series minimizes temperature rises, ensures superior energy savings, and prolongs the railway battery life. The technology enables high efficiency for input lines, output loads, and ambient temperature ranges.

Furthermore, the high-stability feedback loop design of the MIZI03 DC-DC power modules provides outstanding consistency even in light or no-load conditions.

The new isolated DC-DC power converter modules integrate advanced circuit topology that provides efficiency of up to 85%. This allows for a baseplate temperature of around 105°C, and a minimum of 3,000 VAC input to output isolation with reinforced insulation. Other noteworthy features and safety certifications of the MIZI03 series include:

  • Industrial Standard DIP-24 Package
  • Ultra-wide Input Ranges 9-36VDC, 18-75VDC, 40-160VDC
  • I/O Isolation 3000 VAC with Reinforced Insulation
  • Operating Ambient Temp. Range -40℃ to +92℃
  • No Min. Load Requirement
  • Under-Voltage, Overload and Short Circuit Protection
  • EMI Emission EN55032/11 Class A & FCC Level A Approved
  • Vibration and Shock/Bump meets EN 61373 Approved
  • Cooling, Dry & Damp Heat Test meet IEC/EN 60068-2-1, 2, 30 Approved
  • Fire Protection Test meets EN45545-2 Approved
  • Railway EMC Standard EN 50121-3-2 Approved
  • Railway Certified EN50155 (IEC 60571) Approved
  • UL/cUL/IEC/EN 62368-1 (60950-1) Safety Approval & CE Marking
