Coolers stabilize laser temperature in 800 G to 3.2 T optical modules

Tark Thermal Solutions has introduced custom configurations in its OptoTEC MBX thermoelectric cooler series for optical transceivers operating at 800 gigabits per second, 1.6 terabits per second, and 3.2 terabits per second. The modules are designed for OSFP and QSFP-DD transceiver formats used in AI data centers and telecommunications infrastructure.

The MBX series provides active temperature stabilization for laser diodes in optical pluggables. Temperature control maintains wavelength stability and reduces signal degradation at transmission speeds up to 3.2 terabits per second. The modules fit within the space constraints of compact transceiver packages where higher data rates generate increased heat density.

MBX thermoelectric coolers measure as small as 1.5 millimeters by 1.1 millimeters with thickness down to 0.65 millimeters. Heat pumping density reaches 43 watts per square centimeter. The modules operate at lower current than conventional thermoelectric coolers for equivalent heat loads, reducing power consumption in dense deployments.

The series uses thermoelectric materials and manufacturing processes designed for thermal response in compact optical modules. Applications include AI cluster interconnects, long-haul dense wavelength division multiplexing systems, and multi-wavelength links where laser junction temperature affects performance. The modules accommodate rapidly varying heat loads in high-speed optical systems.
