From AI Data Centers to Earth Monitoring: APEC 2026 Plenary Highlights Emerging Power Electronics Challenges

January 21, 2026 By Puja Mitra Leave a Comment

The APEC 2026 Conference Committee is pleased to announce that four distinguished leaders in power electronics will headline the Plenary Session at the 2026 Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC), taking place March 22–26 in San Antonio, Texas. Designed to address issues of both immediate and long-term importance to practicing power electronics engineers, the Plenary Session will showcase expert insights spanning data centers, space systems, sustainability, and artificial intelligence.

The APEC 2026 Plenary Session will be held Monday afternoon, March 23, from 1:45 to 4:45 p.m. in the Hemisphere Ballroom at the Henry B. González Convention Center. The session will also be livestreamed on IEEE.tv, allowing global participation from across the power electronics community. Each presentation will conclude with an interactive Q&A, encouraging dialogue and engagement among attendees.

This year’s plenary speakers include Brian Heber, Director of Engineering for Global Product Integrity at Vertiv, who will present “HVDC Distribution for Future AI Data Centers.” Arturo Fernandez, Head of the Power Systems, EMC and Space Environments Division at the European Space Agency, will discuss “Enabling Copernicus: Power Electronics at the Heart of Earth’s Health Monitoring.” Shiori Idaka, Head of the European Research Cooperation Centre at Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V., will explore “Why Now is the Time to Address Power Semiconductor Sustainability.” Rounding out the program, Minjie Chen, Associate Professor at Princeton University, will present “MagNet Challenge: The Serendipity When Power Magnetics Meets AI.”

Following the Plenary Session, all registered APEC attendees are invited to the Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall from 4:45 to 7:45 p.m., offering an opportunity to network with colleagues and industry leaders.

Registration for the APEC 2026 conference and exhibition is now open, and additional details about the Plenary Session are available on the APEC 2026 website. Known as “The Premier Event in Applied Power Electronics™,” APEC focuses on the practical and applied aspects of power electronics, serving a broad audience that includes equipment OEMs, power supply and motor drive designers, component manufacturers, manufacturing and test engineers, compliance professionals, and business and marketing leaders across the industry.
