Partners in SiC: developed and delivered
A highly visible effort to make SiC a more viable competitor to silicon comes in the form of the Littelfuse majority investment into Monolithic Semiconductor. What both companies plan to bring to the market include FETs for on- and off-board EV chargers, as well as motor drives.
“Littelfuse is known as a safe and trusted supplier,” said Monolithic Semiconductor CEO and Founder, Sujit Banerjee. “Energy efficiency is clearly a global trend and Littelfuse wants to help enable that transition. This is why Littelfuse started looking at silicon carbide because it makes everything more efficient and the converters more compact. Silicon carbide is the new kid on the block but it is getting more and more mature. In the next five to 10 years, we should see silicon users slowly adopting silicone carbide.”
