An eighth brick done with GaN FETs
You are looking at a 500-W high power density eighth brick DC-DC converter done with GaN FETs — the FETs are called out with arrows here. It was designed by EPC applications director John Glasser, pictured at right, who says he didn’t take a lot of time optimizing the circuit for the GaN FETs. Also of interest is how little of the PCB real estate is taken up by circuitry, unlike ordinary eighth-brick converters that use silicon semiconductors.
