Inside the Ford Fusion
Here is an example of technology that SiC is meant to replace. This is an image of a 200-kW liquid-cooled inverter from a Ford Fusion hybrid. Note the pipe fittings for liquid coolant at the bottom of the unit. Its power electronics is all built with silicon IGBTs. Were this same two-level inverter built with SiC technology, it might well be able to get by with air rather than liquid cooling.
