How to test lithium-ion batteries
What you see here is a test system designed to run Li-ion batteries and capacitors and EDLCs (electrical double-layer capacitors, i.e. supercaps) through their paces. Called a model 17011 test system, its creator, Chroma ATE Inc., says it is used to characterize lithium batteries by running numerous tests that include HPPC, a DoE-created regime for hybrid and electric vehicle batteries. Other tests in the system’s repertoire include gauging battery internal resistance, battery cycle life, cell capacity, and simulation of dynamic charging and discharging conditions.
