Inductors support 125 °C operating temperature for high-speed data center communications

August 27, 2025 By Redding Traiger

TDK Corporation has expanded its PLEC69B series of thin-film inductors, measuring 1.2 x 0.6 x 0.95 mm in length, width, and height, respectively. These components separate data signals from power in optical transceivers used in AI data centers, with mass production beginning in August 2025. The growing adoption of AI has increased demand for high-speed, high-capacity optical transceivers that utilize bias-tee circuits to superimpose signals and power on single transmission lines. The PLEC69B inductors prevent signals from flowing into the power side of these circuits due to their impedance characteristics.

The new component provides 10 μH inductance in a 1206 size package using TDK’s proprietary metallic magnetic materials and structural designs. The inductor operates across a frequency range of 10 MHz to 200 MHz, enabling signal separation from power through high impedance characteristics. The DC resistance measures 1.4 Ω typically, representing a 70% reduction compared to similar market products, which decreases power loss and heat generation. The rated current capacity reaches 0.2 A, providing 1.7 times the current handling capability of comparable products. The component operates reliably at temperatures up to 125°C and requires minimal PCB space due to its compact dimensions.

TDK plans to continue developing products for lower power consumption and high-speed communications applications in data centers, servers, optical communication devices, and edge devices to support the expanding AI market.
