When the entries began coming in for our eGaN quiz, we got a surprise: The first entry we looked at had a perfect score!
That entry came from Xiucheng Huang. Huang is currently working toward a Ph.D. degree at Virginia Tech’s Center for Power Electronics Systems. It may come as no surprise that Huang’s main research interests include characterization and evaluation of gallium nitride devices, high-frequency high-power-density power conversion, soft-switching techniques, and power architectures. Huang was born in Zhejiang, China, in 1986. He received the B.S. and M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China in 2008 and 2011, respectively.
What may be most notable about Huang’s entry is that he got perfect marks before we started giving out quiz hints. That means he aced questions about sync FET losses in a buck converter that are proving to be troublesome for a lot of contest entrants.
Huang earned his own personal copy of Alex Lidow’s GaN textbook for his accomplishment.
It’s not too late to enter our quiz contest! The deadline is Dec. 31, and we’ve posted a few hints about some of the more “interesting” questions. Copies of Alex Lidow’s book will go to the first 10 entries with perfect scores.
