TDK Corporation has expanded its CGA series for automotive applications and C series for commercial multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) to include a 10 nF variant rated at 1,250 V in a 3225 package (3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 mm). These capacitors feature C0G characteristics, a Class I dielectric known for minimal capacitance variation across temperature and voltage. Mass production for this series began in December 2024.
As silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET technology continues to be adopted in high-temperature, high-voltage circuits, electrical systems are increasingly operating at higher voltages and currents. This shift is particularly relevant in applications such as electric vehicle charging, where higher voltage resistance is required for resonant and snubber capacitors.
The C0G dielectric ensures stable capacitance over a range of temperatures and voltages, making these MLCCs well-suited for demanding power conversion applications. Their design has been optimized to withstand high voltages, reducing the number of capacitors required in series and contributing to more compact circuit designs. Compared to previous TDK products, these capacitors also generate less heat, helping to improve thermal management in high-power applications.
The CGA and C series MLCCs meet AEC-Q200 qualification standards, ensuring high reliability for automotive applications. TDK plans to continue expanding its portfolio to support the evolving requirements of high-voltage electronic systems.
