Six useful videos about power supplies

April 19, 2013 By Natasha Townsend Leave a Comment

There are some useful videos on power supplies, ranging from computer usage to fundamental background in circuit design. This is my list of videos that were brief and impressive.

Converting computer ATX power supply to lab bench power supply was a nice video that gave background information on how and why to wire the supplies in series and parallel, wire color coding, and the components and tools needed to convert a computer power supply to a lab bench supply. The host covered various techniques in under 15 minutes.

Basic electronic power supplies part 1 video gave a fundamental approach to power supplies. What I enjoyed about this video was the technical, mathematical, and theoretical background to supplies. Then, the host demonstrated the book theory versus the real world for the circuit design.

How cheap is a cheap power supply  video is an excellent example in, “you get what you pay for”. This host discusses purchasing a cheap power supply for his camera. His first indication that something was wrong was the lightweight feel. Then, he wondered why odd things were happening when he plugged the supply into his camera. After a very odd experience with an LED and a circuit board, the host learned about purchasing a cheap power supply.

Power Supply Basics # 1 – What is a Power Supply? and  Power Supply Basics #2 – What is an AC/DC Power Supply? videos illustrate and animate the background of a power supply. The host discusses components in the supply and what supplies are used for. He also explains power conversion and the significance to power supplies.

Manually test a (PSU) power supply with a multimeter  video was a good illustration of how to read voltage from a supply conducting a paper clip test. The host was descriptive and showed how take measurements from different wires.

What is your list?
