SMT varistor protects cir circuits from high-voltage transients

March 3, 2025 By Redding Traiger Leave a Comment

Bourns, Inc. announced its new Model ZV50S2220452NIR1 High Surge Multilayer Varistor. Offered in a compact 2220 surface mount package, these ruggedized multilayer varistors are specifically designed to meet the lifespan requirements in certain applications that operate in certain harsh environments. Ideal too for space-constrained designs, Bourns Model ZV50S2220452NIR1 varistors feature exceptional surge current capability that is five times higher than that of the same size standard varistors.

In addition, the latest multilayer varistors from Bourns offer excellent transient energy absorption due to their improved energy volume distribution and power dissipation. They feature a response time of less than 2 nanoseconds, a 50 Vrms-rated voltage with a peak pulse surge current of 4500 A, and an operating temperature range of –55 to +125 ºC. Designs that can benefit from the overvoltage protection capabilities of these new varistors include radio remote units (RRU) for 5G applications, Power over Ethernet (PoE), base stations, wireless infrastructure, and measurement and control devices.

Bourns Model ZV50S2220452NIR1 High Surge Multilayer Varistors are available now through Bourns’ authorized distribution partners and are RoHS* compliant.
