Tiny 300-W single-output supplies is qualified for medical use

November 16, 2020 By Redding Traiger Leave a Comment

A compact, conduction-cooled, single-output power supply designed specifically for medical systems applications is announced by Vox Power. Widely known for its innovative approach to power supply design, Vox Power has combined the latest components and manufacturing techniques to exactly meet the needs of today’s demanding customer. With the new VCCS300M, the result is a very efficient (95%) and highly reliable (1.1 FPMH) power supply that will satisfy many applications right across the medical sector.

The VCCS300M measures just 4in x 2in x 1.61in with power densities exceeding 23W/in³ and weighs just 310g. The VCCS300M delivers 300W of silent, fanless power and, where the application or environment demands, Vox Power has also designed these units to be cooled by convection or forced air.

Importantly, power solutions of 300W, 600W, 900W, and beyond can be achieved by using the onboard droop current share function, which allows end-users to scale up or down depending on their power requirements.

Applications are widespread and include ventilators, respirators, endoscopes, lab equipment, dental systems, and all types of mobile applications.

The input voltage range is 85 to 264VAC (0.99 power factor) and output voltages are set initially at 12, 24, and 48VDC with in between voltages up to 58VDC available on request. Figures for load and line regulation as well as ripple and noise are excellent while no-load power consumption is below 1W.

Medical equipment designers will note that VCCS300M power supplies are BF rated, feature Class I & II isolation, and meet all appropriate medical equipment standards including IEC/UL60601-1 Edition 3.1. and IEC/UL60601-1-2 Edition 4 (EMC).

Apart from 95% efficiency, key features naturally include excellent low leakage and touch current levels and protection against over-voltage and over-temperature, both with auto restart. Over current and short circuit protection are also standard.

The new power supply is widely available from a global distribution network and, in common with all its products, Vox Power backs the VCCS300M with a 5-year warranty.
