AC/DC supply produces 48 V for intermediate bus applications

May 2, 2016 By Andrew Zistler

asdfBel Fuse Inc. has announced the expansion of Bel Power Solutions’ front end, AC-DC power supply portfolio to include the platinum efficiency PFE1300-48-054NA power supply suitable for wide range of telecom and networking applications.

The PFE1300-48-054NA is a 1300 Watt highly efficient front-end AC-DC power supply that converts standard AC mains power into a main output of 48 VDC for powering intermediate bus architectures (IBA) in high performance and reliability servers, routers, and network switches.

The PFE1300-48-054NA delivers a power density of 30.25 W/inch3 and achieves Platinum efficiency (94% efficient at 50% load) in a compact package measuring 54.5 x 40.0 x 321.5 mm.

The PFC stage guarantees best efficiency and unity power factor over a wide operating range 90 – 264 VAC. The DC-DC stage uses soft switching resonant techniques to reduce component stresses, providing increased system reliability and very high efficiency, in conjunction with synchronous rectification.

An active OR-ing device on the output ensures no reverse load current and renders the supply ideally suited for operation in redundant power systems.

Power supplies are hot swappable and can be connected in parallel with active digital current sharing.

The always-on 16 Watt programmable standby output, with selectable voltage level 3.3 / 5.0 Volts provides power to external power distribution and management controllers.

The supply is fan cooled and ideally suited for integration with a matching airflow paths. The fan speed is adjusted automatically depending on the actual power demand and supply temperature.

Status information is provided with front-panel LEDs.

For monitoring and control of the unit, the PFE1300-48-054NA features system communications via I2C/PMBus™ protocol. The I2C bus allows full monitoring of the supply, including input and output voltage, current, power, and inside temperatures.

Multiple protections such as: over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature are standard.

RoHS compliant and CE marked, the power supply is safety agency certified per UL/CSA 60950-1 and meets the requirements of EN60950-1. It further meets the conducted and radiated EMI requirements of EN55022-A.
