CARLO GAVAZZI’s Sponsorship of Sauber Formula One Affiliate Driver Simona De Silvestro

April 11, 2014 By Jennifer Calhoon

CARLO-GAVAZZICARLO GAVAZZI Inc., the wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of CARLO GAVAZZI HOLDING AG, the international electronics Group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, announced their partnership with Sauber F1 Affiliate Driver Simona De Silvestro.

CARLO GAVAZZI, known worldwide for their high quality automation sensors, monitoring controls and switching devices, with their Holding Company CARLO GAVAZZI HOLDING AG based in Steinhausen, Switzerland, and shares traded on the Swiss Stock Exchange (GAV) is very proud to be sponsoring the only Swiss racer to ever win the prestigious Indy 500 ‘Rookie of the Year’, which was awarded to Simona De Silvestro in 2010.

Fred Shirzadi, President and CEO of CARLO GAVAZZI Inc. stated “CARLO GAVAZZI is well known for products that operate with precision at high speeds; these are also two attributes that Formula One drivers and their vehicles are also well known for. We are very excited to be sponsoring Simona De Silvestro, this partnership further strengthens our bond to our Swiss-Italian heritage.”

The 25-year-old De Silvestro returns to Switzerland after eight seasons of racing in the United States. She left for the U.S. when she was just 18 to drive in the Formula BMW USA Series in 2006 and the Atlantic Championship from 2007 to 2009. De Silvestro was the first female in Atlantic Championship Series history to have earned the most wins, pole positions and lead for the most laps in a single season. She spent the last four years in the IndyCar Series, finishing the 2013 season with nine top-10 finishes, including her first podium finish with a second place finish in Houston. In 2014 Simona signed as an affiliate driver with the Sauber Formula One team putting her on track to become the first full-time female driver in Formula One.

“I’m really excited about CARLO GAVAZZI coming on board with me this year,” Swiss-Italian national De Silvestro said. “This is an exciting time for me and it’s really wonderful to have the support of such a great Swiss company. I’m truly looking forward to growing our relationship with them.”

Imran Safiulla, De Silvestro’s business manager, is delighted with the new connection as well. “We are proud to enter into a new relationship with CARLO GAVAZZI, a company that has a great legacy and is a leading organization in various technologies,” he said. “It’s extremely gratifying to have a partner like CARLO GAVAZZI believing in what we’re trying to accomplish through our platform along with their support of Simona’s quest. This is a fantastic relationship that we look forward to building.”

As the spokeswoman for the Clean Air Energy campaign, Simona participates in community outreach raising awareness of the importance of safe, clean, reliable and sustainable energy and the technologies behind it. She advocates the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education and female empowerment making her an ideal partner for CARLO GAVAZZI.
