Gas Turbine Efficiency plc is using its cleantech water wash systems to keep Energy Industry clients’ gas turbines in optimal operating condition, helping these power generation companies increase their energy output, reduce emissions and improve heat rate.
A recent case study from GTE shows how one of the largest energy retailers in North America successfully installed an online compressor wash system on two GE MS7001EA gas turbines at their Texas plant. With this enhancement, the energy producer increased output and can avoid unscheduled downtime to clean the compressor that would otherwise be required to bring the gas turbine back to its output potential.
“Internal and external contaminants can cause gas turbine’s compressor blades and vanes to foul, which in turn can lead to surging, blade corrosion, and significant efficiency loss,” said Robert Burke, Manager Applications Engineer at GTE. “By installing GTE’s compressor wash system, our client recovered lost productivity and effectively paid for the system in the first 3.2 months of operation.
Published data has quantified the benefits of installing the GTE water wash system and reports recovering lost power of up to two Megawatts in this power generator a sizeable improvement when compared to its gas turbine operation before installing the system. From an environmental perspective, this installation also recorded a NOx reduction of 1958.4 lbs per year and 1468.8 lbs per MW-Hr of CO.
By installing a GTE online compressor wash system, a power plant has the potential to extend the time between offline washes through the peak season with much less performance loss—a solution that offers gas turbine operators cost savings without compromising efficiency.
