NiMH battery packs operate over wide temperature range

September 5, 2019 By Lee Teschler Leave a Comment

NiMH cells and finished battery packs offer two important features in conjunction with each other: Good performance at low temperatures and long life at high temperatures.

Panasonic, one of the world’s leading battery manufacturing companies, a variety of NiMH cells with battery packwide temperature ranges. These cells provide new electrode development which allow for a wide temperature range and long life. They are easy to transport and come with no air restrictions, regulations or manufacturing safety requirements. The NiMH cells have good availability with a wide cell selection that includes stable and compatible sizes. Some sample applications include E-Call or T-Box automotive systems, solar backups, e-latch and logistic/cargo tracking.

Specific features of the NiMH cells include: • High discharge rate • Long-life span • Wide operating temperature (-30 to 85°C)

“Panasonic now offers AA and AAA Nickel Metal Hydride Packs suitable for a wide variety of high and low temperature applications requiring long life,” says Dennis Malec, Panasonic Senior Applications Engineer. “Applications include but are not limited to the following, automotive ecall, telematics, solar backup, and cargo trucking.”

A frequency you can count on There are few constants in life, but what few there are might include death, taxes, and a U.S. grid frequency that doesn’t vary by more than ±0.5 Hz. However, the certainty of the grid frequency is coming into question, thanks to the rising percentage of renewable energy sources that…
