GaN comes to point-of-load supplies
One of the circuits set up in the demo room was this 48 V to point-of-load single-stage converter (left) employing GaN power FETs. The GaN device was a LMG5200 80-V driver, GaN half-bridge power stage using enhancement-mode GaN FETs. The device consists of two, 80-V GaN FETs driven by one high-frequency GaN FET driver in a half-bridge. Peak efficiency is better than 93% and the circuit operates up to about a megahertz. The big board to the right contains load resistors and a fan.
