Magnetically shielded inductors perform in class D amplifiers

February 25, 2019 By Lee Teschler Leave a Comment

Sumida’s magnetically shielded DEP1519B Series Power Inductors are designed for applications in class D digital audio amplifiers, as well as in dc/dc converters and other low-pass filter applications. To minimize internal resistance at high frequencies, high surface area flat-wire is used for the windings. The flat wires also allow more compact construction with higher current ratings. Device size is further reduced by self-shielded metal-hybrid construction.

Inductance values range from 10 – 22 μH in four options. DCR is just 9.2 mW (typ.@ 20°C) for all dep power inductorvalues. Saturation current for the 10.0 µH value is 26 A, typical. Maximum size for all values is just: 18.0×15.5×19.3 mm (L×W×H). The DEP1519B Series offers a full-rated temperature range of -40 to +125°C.

Applications include class D audio amplifiers, such as those used in automotive infotainment systems, portable audio equipment, home theater receivers and subwoofer circuitry. DC-DC converters, and other designs requiring high current and small size are also a good match for the DEP1519B .

The device is RoHS compliant and halogen-free. Solder reflow temperature to 260°C peak. It complies with IPC/JEDEC Moisture Sensitivity Level 1, for unlimited floor life at ≤30°C/85% RH.

Like other Sumida products, DEP1519B Series power inductors meet or exceed the highest industry standards for quality and repeatability. Full application engineering support is available.
